Don't you sometimes wish that you are living someone else's life? Some people seem to have it all, and here you are, sucking at life. In today's episode, Gabriela Brunner of The New Firm points out the importance of embracing who you are because your authentic version is your best self. If you are starting to hear that little voice in your head telling you that you are not good enough and that you should be like someone else, this episode is for you.

I haven't done a live on my business page in a long time. So this is really exciting. I was inspired to hop on here right now because I was actually filling out my pre-session form for my coaching session tomorrow with my mentor Caitlin Edgar. And it felt important to share that.
[00:00:34.000] - Gabriela Brunner
Because I think a lot of times we think that people who are coaches don't have coaches themselves. And I think that's probably one of the farthest from the truth statements that I have heard. The best coaches have the best coaches. And trust me, my coaches are the best, let me tell you. Anyway, I digress. So the little caption that I put on here is there is a different way.
[00:01:02.430] - Gabriela Brunner
And I was thinking about that today. Because of some events that have transpired this week and transpired over the last few weeks, basically. And so often we can get caught up in what other people are doing. What I'm doing, what you're doing, what my mentor Caitlin is doing, what her mentors are doing, what your boss is doing, what your parents are doing, what your spouse is doing. And sometimes we find ourselves mimicking them doing what they're doing in order to either people please or request love or feel if I do it, how they're doing it, then they're going to say, Oh, look at you, good for you. And pat you on the head or pat you on the back, or you think that they might love you more. Really, what I've come to understand very deeply is that the root cause of most things is a cry for love, right? And so when we see all of these people around us, when we see all of these people succeeding, living the life of a, quote, our dreams. Right. We think it's the life of our dreams because they're off jet setting or galvan thing or saving the world or living in a tree or doing whatever we think that we need to do that, too.
[00:02:13.560] - Gabriela Brunner
And we actually beat ourselves up when we don't do it. And through this experience that I've been having, the details are not important. What was really coming through for me is that there is a different way. And by different way, I mean different than who you're trying to emulate, emulate yourself. It's so easy, and I'm guilty of it. I'll be the first one to admit that I have gone through a lot of experiences where I have copied, mimicked done as others have done.
[00:02:45.160] - Gabriela Brunner
And truth be told, in the big picture, it's all beautiful because every time I do that, I deepen more into who I am and what I do, how I do things. Because one of the biggest things that we get from having experiences is it. Either deepens us into the yes, this is how I want to do things, or it provides us such an opposite, such an extreme, such a contrast that we say, oh, absolutely. Not. For example, there was a time in my life where I wanted more than anything to have this jet setter lifestyle. I just wanted to travel all the time.
[00:03:21.140] - Gabriela Brunner
And sometimes I get caught up in that sometimes I think, oh, wouldn't it be great to be one of those people who like it hotel to hotel and traveling the world? And when I allow myself to experience that, even if it's in my own mind, so not even like I'm traveling or anything, even if it's just in my own mind, I just close my eyes and I deeply experience that I start to feel things in my body, and I start to understand that that's not really for me. And so what I've come to learn is that when you see those people and you start having that envy and you start trying to live their lives, you can take a deep breath and say, what is it about their experiences that they're currently living or that they're currently portraying that you're desiring?
[00:03:59.890] - Gabriela Brunner
And so I haven't thought about the traveling thing it was just an example that came up. But when I think about people, let's just say who have their own successful businesses, whatever successful means, right? People saying they're making six figures and people saying that they have 1000 clients or whatever the situation is, a lot of times I start to tense up.
[00:04:18.780] - Gabriela Brunner
And I start to feel like, Oh, I want that, or like I need that, or Why isn't that me? Why can't I do that? And then I actually take a real deep breath, and it's because my way of doing things is a different way of doing things. And where I am in my life, what I have is exactly what I desire. And a lot of times we want something, but it's not the right time in our life. And that's another lesson, right?
[00:04:45.790] - Gabriela Brunner
Learning to trust and deepen into that trust. So when we think about a different way, when we think about our way we bless those experiences around us. We bless those people around us that are showing us what our way actually is. And the more that you trust yourself and the more that you love yourself and the more that you hold yourself with such deep compassion, the more that you start to see that your way is exactly the way that the people around you need to.

So I was at my buddy yoga class last night here in Decatur, and Adrian read the most beautiful poem. I don't remember the whole thing, but the gist of it is that the more that you are you, the more that you honor this quote different way, meaning your way. The more that you show up in the world and serve in that capacity, the more you become you. And somebody out there needs you exactly as you are. And when you start to force yourself to be something else, that's really when you don't show up in your best self when you maybe turn clients away or turn them off or people or jobs or opportunities because you're trying to be something that you're not. And even if you get your foot in the door, which, trust me, I have been a very good interviewer. I have gotten many jobs in my lifetime. I can be very good at saying what needs to be said.
[00:06:05.240] - Gabriela Brunner
I believe it's always from the truth. But you can spend things a certain way to make them sound a little better, I guess, as long as you're always saying with integrity, which I always have. But the more that you stray from who you are and what you truly desire, the more that that's going to come up as time goes on. So to give you an example, say, you get a job that you're just like, oh, I want it for just the money or for the wrong reasons. I'm not going to demonize money, but that's usually the first thing that comes to mind.
[00:06:33.600] - Gabriela Brunner
And then you get into that job. And there was always something that felt uneasy about it. There was always something that was kind of like maybe that's not quite it. Maybe it's not what you want. Maybe you let fear take over instead of holding on to the next opportunity. Those things are going to come up in your job. Those things are going to come up in your business. And so when they do just invite the opportunity to see them, to see. What lesson they're teaching you, to gain some wisdom from it, to get a little bit stronger so that next time maybe you can hold off another couple of hours. This actually happened to me when I was leaving a big firm several years ago. I was exploring jobs in career services in law school. And I actually had two very viable opportunities. And then, I applied for an immigration attorney position because I thought I was scared. I thought I need to go stay in immigration or I need to stay in the law.
[00:07:25.020] - Gabriela Brunner
What if I use my degree? I got this degree for no reason. And blah, blah, blah. I had a lot of fear-based thoughts in my mind. And really it was kind of interesting. Because I accepted the immigration position. And literally, hours later I got offered the career services job, which is actually at the time and throughout many years, something that I thought I really wanted. And as you can see, I've actually modeled my business around a career services type of energy in my own way, of course.

So I trust that all of this is making sense because it's really just kind of coming through around this idea of doing things a different way. And that different way is your way. And each time your way might be a different way too just because you've always done things a certain way doesn't mean you have to continue to do them a certain way so that's what I had to share with you. I'm playing around with being here on this page a little bit more and inviting more people to come into this space and to share some wisdom and so I hope to see more of you on here and at any time if you want to drop me a line if you want to explore any opportunities my website is www.TheNewFirm.Co I am currently opening myself up to work with two to four new one-on-one clients where there's so much going on I just invite you to reach out the best way honestly the best way to know if I can help you is if we have a conversation so go to my website send me an email Gabriella@TheNewFirm.Co and let's just have a conversation let's just see what possibility looks like for you.
